Colyn Fischer
holds degrees in violin performance and music education;
he performs and teaches classical violin and Celtic fiddle.

He is a qualified teacher of music in middle school, an instructor at a summer fiddle camp on the East Coast, a jazz player, and a composer of music in many different genres. he teaches workshops in Scottish fiddling to players of all ages and levels.

In the San Francisco Bay area, he coaches and co-directs the Peninsula Scottish Fiddlers (http://www.thefiddlers.com), and has toured Scotland with the group.  He has twice won the U.S. Open Scottish Fiddling championship.

Shauna Pickett-Gordon majored in piano and voice performance, and teaches both.  Besides accompanying instrumentalists and singers, she has played with many of the great Scottish fiddlers in North America, and she is the featured pianist in the annual concerts of the Scottish Fiddlers of Los Angeles.

She co-directs the Peninsula Scottish Fiddlers and writes their arrangements.  In southern California, she served churches and synagogues as music director, conducting the choir from the organ or piano; and she accompanies silent movies.

Her compositions range from classical to Celtic, jazz, and world styles.

Together Shauna and Colyn are The Peat-Fire Flame (http://www.scotsduo.com), a concert duo specializing in the virtuosic classical-traditional music of Scotland, but they also play in other genres including their trademark Jazzeltic (Celtic jazz), world music, and free improvisations.

The duo have released two CDs: The Light of Day (2009) and Nocturne (2010), and they are featured on several albums by Sugo Music (available through iTunes).  They play full-length concerts, they perform at events of all kinds, and they play for Scottish Country Dancing.

What people are saying:

  • "Both are brilliant musicians, performers, composers and teachers.Put them together and they're on fire."
  • "From traditional Scottish tunes to original compostions and improvisation, the duo plays passionately. Your face will ache during the happy tunes because you will not be able to stop smiling. Other compositions will sweep you away and leave you in a glorious dream."

  • "Is it Celtic? world? jazz? All of the above..."
