Kindermusik  Village  :: ages newborn to 1.5-yrs

Curriculum: Kindermusik International
Minimum 3; maximum 10
Parent/caregiver participates in class
  • Movement, music, exploration
  • 45 minutes weekly
Babies are natural musicians. Their eyes sparkle and bodies wiggle to all kinds of music. Before they talk, they "sing" sounds. Music prompts children to imitate patterns of sound and rhythm. Music develops concentration and memory and sharpens hand-eye coordination. Kindermusik incorporates the most current research on early childhood development and provides families a special place for learning and connecting with other parents and babies through music and movement. Classes can be joined at any time during the semester.

Kindermusik  Sign & Sing  :: ages 6-mos to 3-yrs

Curriculum: Kindermusik International

Minimum 3; maximum 6
Parent/caregiver participates in class
  • Developed by Signing Smart
  • For hearing children
  • 45 minutes weekly
  • 6-week class (2nd class will follow immediately)

Through songs, toys and loving playtime between you and your child, Kindermusik Sign & Sing shows you more than 50 signs your child can use to communicate with you. Using research-proven methods shown to speed language development in hearing children, you'll see how sign language can ease frustration and enhance long-term learning abilities for your child.  You'll easily substitute American Sign Language (ASL) signs in familiar songs, improving your child's language skills, fine motor skills, and strengthen fingers for zipping zippers and using scissors.

Summer 2007: Sign & Sing Session A

Playtime and everyday items around the house—such as a ball, bubbles, and family members—are learning themes in this introduction to American Sign Language for a child and caregiver. Experienced signers will benefit from the session's four, research-proven strategies shown to speed language development in hearing children, developed by the child development and sign language experts Signing Smart(tm). With the DVD's visual dictionary showing parents and children making over 60 signs, plus a pocket-sized set of flashcards of the pictures and the words of the signs, you'll easily incorporate sign language into your daily routines, favorite nursery rhymes, and stories.

Summer 2007: Sign & Sing Session B

This follow-up session to the first introduces more signs using animals and toys as a learning theme, and delves into a deeper understanding of the Four Keys to Signing Smart introduced during Session A. With a special focus on helping children understand signs used in different contexts, the At Home Materials include a Children's DVD called The Treasure Chest: Signs, Songs, and Rhymes, and features mini-music videos of children singing well-loved songs using the signs, as well as showing the printed word across the bottom of the screen—giving your child multiple ways to learn the words, the sign, and the language.

Kindermusik  Family Time  :: ages newborn to 7-yrs

Curriculum: Kindermusik International
Minimum 3; maximum 10
Parent/caregiver participates in class
  • For families with multiple children
  • See how music can bring your closer together as a family
  • 45 minutes weekly
  • 10-week class

This new class is one-room schoolhouse approach to music and specially designed for families with more than one child. While it would be ideal to take each child to their own special class, that's not realistic with more than one child.  A Family Time class becomes a multi-layered learning environment. Your children will listen to instruments and to each other, learn from their peers and older children, and enjoy music and movement with hoops, scarves and tumble-around play.

Toddler Tunes  :: ages 1.5 to 3-yrs
Curriculum: Harmony Road Music Course
Minimum 3; maximum 10
Parent/caregiver participates in class
  • Two 18-week sessions
  • 45 minutes weekly

Toddler Tunes is a joyful music experience. Your little one will start by singing, dancing and exploring the keyboard with you beside her/him. You will learn fun coaching techniques so you can reinforce the concepts between lessons. Toddler Tunes includes a fun repertoire of finger-play, bounces, rhythmic patterns and lullabies. You get CDs and workbooks of Harmony Road songs, designed to feature age-specific, layered musical exercises and rhythms. This building-block approach to music trains ears for better inner hearing and helps maintain the good sense of pitch with which children are born. With toddlers, we build musical minds before musical hands. At age 3 to 3.5, children advance to Music in Me. Classes can be joined at any time during the session.

Music in Me & More Music in Me  :: ages 3 to 4.5-yrs

Curriculum: Harmony Road Music Course

Minimum 3; maximum 8

Parent/caregiver participates in class
  • Two 18-week sessions
  • 45 minutes weekly

This dynamic readiness program is structured so that your child will learn to play music the same way he or she learned to speak -- by listening, repeating and responding. A parent or caregiver attends, participates and coaches at home. Music in Me contains the basic elements of rhythm, melody, pitch, dynamics, phrasing and form. Concepts are learned through keyboard playing, solfege singing (naming notes using do-re-mi), movement activities and the use of rhythmic instruments. As your child develops a trained ear and learns to create and perform music in a non-competitive environment, he or she will develop coordination, concentration and self-confidence. This layered natural approach emphasizes the ensemble aspects of music and it is wonderful preparation for further studies. Parents are fully involved in class and at home. After Music in Me students may move into More Music in Me. Either class may be repeated until the child is between ages 4.5 and 5.5 and is ready to advance to Harmony Road Book 1.

Help! Which class is right for my child?
For most students, choosing a class by age is the best bet. The curriculum for each class is age-appropriate for a child's developing skills physically, cognitively, emotionally and musically.

If you have concerns about your child's success in a particular age range, we'd be happy to work with you to find the class best suited for him/her.

If you have two or more children of different ages with you at all times, Family Time might be right for you.

Take a look at the "Classes by age" chart and feel free to talk to your teacher about your child's needs.
